Day 4: 31 Days Reset Your Life – Identify Your Values

Today’s Exercise: Take at least 15 minutes to jot down a free-for-all list  of all things that means a lot to you in your life, all the things you care about. Feel free to take more time if you need it.

A few examples of values include:

  • Achievement, fame, advancement, leadership
  • Money, power, authority, economic security
  • Having a family, children, love, community, friendships
  • Nature, religion, public service, ecological awareness, healthy living, physical challenge
  • Democracy, civic involvement, wisdom, integrity, truth
  • Location, privacy, country, adventure, fast-paced living
Things I value:
Love, family, education, respect, honesty, privacy, mental stimulation/challenges, wisdom, advancement, leadership, spirituality, good friendships, high moral fiber, simplicity, happiness, integrity, travel, appreciation, friends, personal time, good ethics, compassion, volunteering, equality, knowledge, opportunities, grace, democracy, ecological awareness, stability, security, follow through, responsibility for one’s actions.
Your Reset 10:
Once you identify all of your values – all of the things you care about it, choose your “Reset 10” – a list of your TOP 10 values from your list in no particular order.
My TOP 10: It was so hard to narrow down, but these are the core of me.
  1. Honesty
  2. Integrity
  3. Personal time
  4. Equality
  5. Love/family
  6. Respect
  7. Privacy
  8. Mental Stimulation
  9. Wisdom
  10. Happiness
My take away from this exercise:
WOW! It’s hard narrowing it down to just 10 but after I started creating my list, I saw a recurring theme and when I really thought about who I am as a person these ten jumped out at me. Although the exercise didn’t say to – I leaned toward the core values that make me who I am.
