Review: Naptural85 Homemade DIY Protein Sensitive Deep Conditioner

Whatup Naturals??

As you may already know, I follow Naptual85 on YouTube along with a few others mainly because she has remained pretty simple in her hair care routine and products used. I believe with the exception of the Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner that she uses for her co-washes, she makes all of her products and they total about 5 max.
As I near my 2 year naturalverisary, I am striving to use less store bought and more natural or homemade products in my regimen which I’ve also simplified over the last few months.

Earlier on in her journey she did a DIY Deep Condition that was made with eggs, mayo and honey. I tried it and it was okay but I wasn’t wowed enough to make it part of my monthly routine and since then I’ve been on the search for a deep condition. Well she must have sensed my struggle to find one and posted a video for a DIY protein sensitive deep condition and of course, I wanted to give it a try.

Here’s her video:

I followed suite but made a few swaps for things I know work better on my hair. Here’s what I used:

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 c Aloe Vera Juice
  • 1/2 can of whole Coconut Milk
  • 1TBSP Sweet Almond Oil
  • 1 TBSP Jamaican Black Castor Oil
**I will note that this recipe makes and INSANE amount!! LOL! Duh, as she mentioned its plenty for HER length which is like 4x’s the length of my hair. But I digress. I will be altering the recipe to suite my length as follows:
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 c Aloe Vera Juice
  • 1/4 can of whole Coconut Milk
  • 1/2 TBSP Sweet Almond Oil
  • 1/2 TBSP Jamaican Black Castor Oil

My Thoughts:

I LOVE this deep conditioner! It’s moisturizing, simple, and I can see my curls come back to life during the application. I left it on my hair for about 4 hours (lost track of time on the phone with a blast from the past) and then followed up with my regular co-wash routine and braid out.

I will be incorporating this DIY protein friendly deep conditioner into my routine about 2x per month or when I feel my curls need a lil something extra to revive them.
